For fourth consecutive year, Canada’s national nuclear laboratory recognized for commitment to exceptional workplace and employee-friendly policies

Chalk River, ON – January 07, 2020 – Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Canada’s premier nuclear science and technology organization, is pleased to announce that it has once again been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. This is the fourth consecutive year the company has been recognized with this national award. Now in its 20th year, the annual competition run by Mediacorp celebrates Canadian employers with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.

As Canada’s national nuclear laboratory, CNL employs over 3,000 professionals in a variety of unique fields, from nuclear scientists and engineers to business professionals and skilled tradespeople. With major national programs being carried out in laboratory and project sites across the country, CNL works to foster a positive and employee-friendly work environment that offers its staff the opportunity to grow personally and professionally.

“CNL is proud to receive this prestigious award and once again be recognized as a leader in Canada for our progressive employee programs and workplace culture,” commented Mark Lesinski, CNL President and CEO. “As a company that’s focused on innovation, we do our best to develop and implement creative employee policies that ensure our staff feel valued and respected, and that even bring a little bit of fun into the workplace. Receiving this award for the fourth year in a row shows that these efforts are paying off.”

There are a number of different factors that were identified by Mediacorp for selecting CNL as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. Among the many highlights, Mediacorp praised CNL’s newly introduced SEED Program, a crowdfunding program to finance employee-driven research projects; CNL’s employee morale fund, a company-wide initiative to encourage team-building and foster organizational pride; and the various social events, workplace amenities and employee engagement platforms that are present across CNL’s many sites.

“Whether it’s our professional development program, our beautiful Chalk River campus, or our annual employee awards recognition program, CNL has a lot to offer employees that go beyond compensation,” explained Murray Odesse, General Manager of Human Resources at CNL. “It’s also worth noting that many of our social events, charitable initiatives and employee wellness activities are organized by employees, which speaks to the culture we’ve managed to build here at CNL.”

To select winners, Mediacorp editors evaluate each applicant by rigorous criteria in eight key areas, including physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
