CNL has filed an appeal with the Federal Court of Appeal regarding the Federal Court’s decision (T-647-24) related to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) approval of a Species At-Risk Act (SARA) permit in relation to the construction of a Near Surface Disposal Facility (NSDF) at Chalk River Laboratories.
Through the appeal, CNL seeks to obtain clarity in a complex regulatory environment as we work to responsibly address Canada’s legacy nuclear liabilities and minimize their impacts on the environment.
While the appeal process unfolds, CNL remains committed to protecting the environment and species at-risk. CNL firmly believes in the science that is behind our proposal, which is the culmination of almost a decade of study, federal and provincial review, and engagement with Indigenous communities, the public and other interested parties.
CNL will continue efforts to minimize the environmental impacts of these historic nuclear liabilities until a permanent solution is in place.
