The following information bulletin is in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL). On October 7, 2020, CNL was notified that a package of controlled materials should have been shipped under a different classification. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the package was appropriate for the shipping of the material. The proper classification would have accounted for the radiological survey readings experienced. CNL is reviewing the steps taken to classify this particular package to prevent a reoccurrence. CNL advised the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission of the event.
