The following information bulletin is in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) ongoing commitment to voluntary public disclosure of events related to the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).
Chalk River, ON – June 25, 2024 – The site wide sirens that occurred at Chalk River Laboratories on the evening of June 24, 2024, were the result of a false alarm activation caused by a malfunctioning alarm system.
CNL staff investigated and have replaced the malfunctioning equipment. Proper function was confirmed, and the alarms were then reset.
There was no risk to staff, public or the environment as a result of this false alarm.
The event has been reported to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
