CNL’s approach to sustainability is rooted in the belief that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) excellence is not only a moral imperative, but also a strategic business decision that will bring long-term value to the company.
In pursuit of those goals, CNL has implemented a sustainability program that sets targets for environmental performance, such as carbon emissions, biodiversity protection and waste management. We have also established commitments to nurture a healthy work environment for our staff and contractors, to engage meaningfully with our stakeholders and with Indigenous Nations, communities, and organizations, and to extend economic opportunities to Indigenous and local businesses.
First published in 2021, CNL’s Sustainability Report is produced on an annual basis and provides insight into its ongoing efforts to incorporate sustainability into the operation of all of the sites that we manage on behalf of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL). A short Executive Summary is also available.
This document not only serves as an important tool that both tracks and guides our journey towards more responsible operations, but it also illustrates the many activities that are underway to pursue a more sustainable future at Canada’s national nuclear laboratories.
